Loss Data Supplied by Property Claims Services
Loss data is supplied to IFEX by Property Claims Services (PCS®), part of the Insurance Services Organisation.
PCS has been responsible for identifying and estimating insured property damage resulting from catastrophes affecting the United States since 1949.
PCS loss estimates are used routinely by the insurance industry to identify catastrophe losses, validate reserves and estimate the physical resources that may be needed to handle claims at catastrophe sites. They are also used to settle ILW reinsurance policies.
PCS generally provides a preliminary loss estimate within 10-14 days of an event.
Loss estimates typically are resurveyed every 60 days as additional claims information becomes available.
PCS publishes interim loss reports reflecting resurveyed loss estimates until it believes that the industry insured loss has been reasonably approximated, at which point a final loss estimate is published.
Generally, PCS attempts to complete resurvey estimates and to release a final loss estimate within six months of the occurrence of a PCS identified catastrophe.
